Local Processing Bias Impacts Implicit and Explicit Memory in Autism

چکیده
Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is characterized by atypical perception, including processing that biased toward local details rather than global configurations. This bias may impact on memory. The present study examined the effect of this perception both implicit (Experiment 1) and explicit 2) memory in conditions promote either or processing. first experiment consisted an object identification priming task using two distinct encoding conditions: one favoring (Local condition) other (Global drawings. second focused episodic (explicit) with different cartoon recognition tasks favored (i.e., specific details) a each as whole). In addition, all participants underwent general clinical cognitive assessment aimed at documenting their profile enabling correlational analyses experimental tasks. Seventeen ASD 17 typically developing (TD) controls aged from 10 to 16 years participated 13 matched TD were included for experiment. Experiment 1 confirmed preservation effects but, unlike Comparison group, group did not increase his performance after globally oriented 2 revealed led difficulties discriminating lures targets when shared common details. correlation analysis these associated speed inhibition. These preliminary results suggest natural perceptual processes information upon preventing time-limited induce confusion between memories share

Implicit Versus Explicit Local Contextual Processing
We investigated the effects of implicit local contextual processing using behavioral and electrophysiological measures. EEG recording blocks consisted of targets preceded by either randomized sequences of standards or by sequences including a predictive sequence signaling the occurrence of a target event. Subjects performed two sessions: in the first the regularity of the predictive sequence wa...
متن کاملimplicit and explicit memory bais in depression and anxiety
williams, watts, macleod and mathews' (1988) model of anxiety and depression leads to the prediction that anxious patients will show mood – congreuent implicit memory bias, while depressed patients will show mood-congruent explicit memory bias.although this prediction has been supported by some researchers (denny & hunt, 1992 mathews, moog, et al , 1989 watkins, et al, 1992), the reliabili...
متن کاملImplicit and explicit memory models
In describing phenomena associated with memory, people typically rely on an implicit or intuitive theory that assumes the mind is like a space in which memories are stored, just as objects are stored in physical space. Utilization of information is often described as a search process through the space. The argument is briefly presented that almost all explicit memory theories embody the same as...
متن کاملStudy of Numerical Processing Speed, Implicit and Explicit Memory, Active and Passive Memory, Conservation Abilities, and Visual-Spatial Skills of Students with Dyscalculia
Background and Purpose: Learning disorder is one of the common disorders in students, which can lead to the occurrence of educational problems and secondary disorders in them. Based on psychopathological criteria, dyscalculia is one of the subcategories of learning disorder. Children with this disorder have problems in perception of spatial relations and in different cognitive abilities. Theref...
متن کاملMeasuring the Effectiveness of Explicit and Implicit Instruction through Explicit and Implicit Measures
Many studies have examined the effect of different approaches to teaching grammar including explicit and implicit instruction. However, research in this area is limited in a number of respects. One such limitation pertains to the issue of construct validity of the measures, i.e. the knowledge developed through implicit instruction has been measured through instruments which favor th...
